We’re thrilled that three Affirm Press books have been shortlisted for the Children’s Book Council of Australia Book of the Year Awards for 2019.

Humour, colour and a glamorous seal have each made their mark on the CBCA judges, with Tricky’s Bad Day by Alison Lester – a story about a little tiger having a terrible day – in the running in the Early Childhood category, while in the New Illustrator category two talented creators have been honoured. Allison Langton’s vintage-inspired illustrations in The Singing Seal, and Jane Reiseger’s spontaneous, colourful art in Red House, Blue House, Green House, Tree House! have both been recognised on the shortlist.

Affirm Press kids commissioning editor Clair Hume, on behalf of the company, warmly congratulated Alison Lester, Allison Langton and Jane Reiseger, whose talent and dedication to their work is worthy of the recognition.

‘It’s such a joy to see these tremendous new illustrators be acknowledged with this honour. Both Alli and Jane are incredibly gifted as well as being hard-working and dreamy to collaborate with. And we’re all delighted that dear Tricky’s bad day has turned around!’ said Clair.

There are so many fabulous books published each year, a fact that only makes us more grateful that the Affirm Press kids list (which launched in 2017) continues to be recognised, following on from last year’s CBCA ceremony when A Walk in the Bush by debut author–illustrator Gwyn Perkins took home The Picture Book of the Year award, and beloved picture book creator Alison Lester’s The Very Noisy Baby was named Honour Book for the Early Childhood category.
