Affirm Press’ bestselling 2016 novel The Birdman’s Wife by Melissa Ashley has won the Australian Booksellers Association (ABA) Booksellers’ Choice Award.
The Booksellers Choice Award recognises Australian new release titles that booksellers most enjoyed reading, marketing and hand-selling during the past year. The novel was chosen from a shortlist of six.
Affirm Press Sales and Marketing Director Keiran Rogers said he was delighted but not entirely surprised that The Birdman’s Wife took home the award.
‘It was clear when we started selling The Birdman’s Wife to bookstores that there was a huge interest in the book and our sales tactic of combining an absolutely gorgeous, artistic cover with the reasonable price of $32.99 was working. Early sales results showed that it was really taking off and the momentum is still going.’
The Birdman’s Wife was also shortlisted for the Australian Book Industry Award’s General Fiction Book of the Year Award and the Australian Book Designer’s Award for the Best Designed Literary Fiction Book.
