Affirm Press will be expanding its commercial list under the direction of newly appointed Publisher, Kelly Doust. Kelly comes to Affirm Press with almost two decades of experience in publishing as both an author and industry professional, including in key roles such as Publisher at Murdoch Books and Publicity Manager at Allen & Unwin.

The appointment of Kelly Doust is a key part of the strategic plan for the independent publisher, which will continue to grow its list in categories where it has already had great success, such as Mind Body Spirit and Personal Development, as well as building on its commercial women’s non-fiction list and expanding into previously untapped categories under Kelly’s leadership.

Kelly lives in Sydney and will operate remotely from there, joining Senior Editor Ruby Ashby-Orr (in Launceston) in the publisher’s decentralised workforce. The rest of the Melbourne-based Affirm Press team will continue to embrace the ‘hybrid’ model with a mix of working from home and office work.

Affirm Press Publishing Director Martin Hughes said it was heartening to find in Kelly someone so passionate about creative commercial publishing.

‘Kelly is exactly what we’ve been looking for to crack open new categories and take Affirm Press to the next level. Kelly’s vision is compelling, her passion infectious, and we think she will be a terrific fit with our team. We are delighted to have Kelly on board and tremendously excited to see what she does with this opportunity.’

Kelly said she was excited for this new chapter:

‘I am delighted to be joining the team at Affirm Press; they have an impressive reputation and values which so match my own. I’m looking forward to building a broad list of quality commercial titles with them, in both fiction and non-fiction.’

The Affirm Press team looks forward to Kelly joining us on 10 May 2021.
