How would you like to be the commissioning editor at one of the fastest growing trade publishers in Australia? Following recent successes and having been named Australian Small Publisher of the Year in 2019, the team at Affirm Press is keen to maintain the momentum by recruiting an experienced, entrepreneurial editor who will love commissioning successful books across the breadth of our list (with the exception of the kids list, at least for now).
One of the joys of being a mid-sized publisher is that everyone on the team gets the opportunity to publish books they love, which has served us well since we made Affirm Press a full-time concern about five years ago. But the successful candidate for this role will be super-charged with (and hopefully for) the task. You’d be working with me, the publishing director, senior editor Ruby, editor Coco, and everyone else in our tight-knit team of twelve.
You’re already in the industry so you’ll know that making books is not the easiest way of making bucks, but at Affirm Press we strive to make sure that work is fun and fulfilling for everyone on our team and stakeholders beyond. Hopefully our low staff turnover is testament to success on this front; Affirm Press is definitely greater than the sum of its parts and Keiran and I (the directors) genuinely love coming to work.
Another advantage of working with a company of our size is that you’re working day in and day out with the directors, and together we can act quickly and decisively to pounce on opportunities. We’re always looking for new approaches to this business and we believe the best way of doing any part of publishing probably hasn’t even been discovered yet so we’ll keep trying.
Opportunities like this don’t come up often so don’t let it pass without sussing us out: request a Position Description from [email protected], ask around or just get in touch. We are all very excited about a new person coming on board. Hope it’s you!
