Affirm Press will be expanding its kids list under the direction of newly appointed Publisher, Natasha (Tash) Besliev. Tash comes to Affirm Press with almost two decades of experience in children’s publishing which has included key roles such as Managing Director of Hardie Grant Egmont and CEO of Bonnier Publishing Australia.
In the three years since the list launched it has published CBCA award-winning picture books by Gwyn Perkins, Jane Godwin and Alison Lester, and ABIA/Indie Book Award notables like Fiona Hardy’s debut novel, among many others.
The appointment of Tash Besliev is a key part of the strategic plan for the independent publisher’s kids list, which will retain its current identity and independent spirit while expanding commercially through rights sales and international partnerships. Kids Editor and former Hill of Content children’s buyer, Meg Whelan, and the existing editorial team will maintain their focus on developing the established list of beautiful picture books by local creators, and innovative middle-grade and YA novels for adventurous young readers.
Affirm Press Publishing Director Martin Hughes said it was great to be focusing on ambition and optimism in such an anxious time around the world.
‘We couldn’t be more pleased to have Tash joining Affirm Press as Kids Publisher. She has exactly the kind of experience, drive and vision we want at this stage in the evolution of our kids list, and we have ambitious plans to build on the great foundation laid over the past three years. We see huge growth potential in our kids list, and Tash is the ideal person to lead that when the economy rebounds. Already Tash seems to gel beautifully with our team, and we can’t wait to start working with her.’
Tash said she was excited for this new chapter:
‘I am thrilled to be joining the Affirm Press team and honoured to be working on their stellar children’s list having admired it from afar over the past three years. What the team has done in such a short amount of time is incredible and I’m excited to join in the fun!’
The Affirm Press team has met Tash and are excited to welcome her when she starts the role on 19th May 2020.
