We’re thrilled to have been named Small Publisher of the Year at the Australian Book Industry Awards (ABIA) 2019!
Affirm Press thanks all the booksellers and agents who have supported us, and of course our wonderful authors for being a part of the Affirm Press family. A hearty congratulations to all the ABIA winners and nominees, including our very own Christian White, author of bestselling debut The Nowhere Child, who was shortlisted for two awards.
This award comes off the back of a big year for Affirm Press in 2018. We broke into the top ten Australian publishers, following five consecutive years of 35–40% growth since the company’s launch as a full-time enterprise in 2013. Since then, Affirm Press has added an award-winning list for younger readers, grown to 11 permanent staff, and developed a reputation as an innovative and dynamic trade publisher.
On this recognition for Affirm Press, Publishing Director Martin Hughes said:
‘Credit for this award goes 100% to the team at Affirm Press, which is absolutely greater than the sum of its parts. We love working together and have fun every day while being passionate about what we do, and that comes across in the way we approach producing, publishing and selling books.
‘But as proud as we are of the books we have already published, it’s the books that we have coming up that excite me most. We have always tried to be positive and optimistic in our approach, and we now have great momentum as a publisher to keep that going. We are very excited about the future of Australian publishing and our part in it.’
The Small Publisher of the Year Award was announced in Sydney on Thursday 2 May at the Australian Book Industry Awards, an initiative of the Australian Publishers Association. For more information about the ABIA visit here.
