We’re rapt that two of our kids books have made the 2018 shortlist for the Children’s Book Council of Australia Awards (CBCA).
The first ever book released on the Affirm Press kids list was A Walk in the Bush, a whimsical picture book by debut author/illustrator, Gwyn Perkins. When we signed Gwyn he said it was his dream to one day have a book with a sticker on the cover. He found out about the CBCA shortlist (and associated stickering) on his 76th birthday! We doff our caps to Gwyn, what an inspiration. He proves that you’re never too old (or too young, in the case of our kids list) to succeed.
From a newbie to Australian picture book royalty, Gwyn is joined in the shortlistings by the amazing and inimitable Alison Lester, whose The Very Noisy Baby is shortlisted in the category of Early Childhood. This is a wonderfully boisterous story in rhyme inspired by Alison’s granddaughter, whom, we can attest, on the days she has visited the Affirm Press office does have an impressive set of pipes.
Two CBCA shortlisting in our first year! We couldn’t be happier, and the heartiest congratulations to Alison and Gwyn from everyone at Affirm Press. Good luck when the winners are announced on 17 August.
