Kids Submissions Opening 1 November!

If you’ve been working on a manuscript for juniors, middle-readers or young adults then it’s time to start filling your plot-holes and sharpening your prose because we’re opening up submissions for the first time ever! From Thursday 1 November 2018 we’ll be officially calling for unsolicited submissions for our kids list in the categories of junior, middle-reader and young adult books. Picture book submissions will remain restricted to existing authors and agents.

Affirm Press Publishing Director Martin Hughes is looking forward to finding a diamond in the rough.

‘Clair Hume and Davina Bell have done a sensational job over the past couple of years, carving out an enviable reputation for picture books (two CBCA gongs in your first year is pretty hard to beat!). We are now excited to see the kids team replicate that success with narratives for juniors, middle-readers and young adults. So, if you’ve been working on a manuscript and feel ready to share, don’t overthink it – just send it in!’

In August Affirm Press’ first picture book, A Walk in the Bush by debut author/illustrator Gwyn Perkins, won the CBCA Picture Book of the Year, while Alison Lester’s bestseller The Very Noisy Baby was named CBCA Honour Book in the category of Early Childhood.

Commissioning Editor Clair Hume and Senior Editor Davina Bell lead the kids list’s acquisitions.

Submissions should include a synopsis and three chapters and be emailed to [email protected]
